Infested.

Yes, it true. They have the run of the house. They make a mess. I’ve seen five (and even got a photo.) It’s mice. And they are everywhere. At least it’s the kind that the cats LIKE to chase.

I used Wendy’s pattern for cat nip mice , and scraps of yarn. The cats love the catnip, and have found these things everywhere in my house. I think I have created a couple of addicts. *sigh*

2 of these are on there way to Saskatchewan to surprise a couple of special furry friends out there. I hope they like them as much.

I have also finally finished hubby’s wrist warmers. As modeled by the recipient.

I guess it hasn’t been that long, but I felt like I have to make myself do it, especially on the third pair. I think I’m ultra bored, and mine are gonna have to wait a while. That is ok. Do feel too bad for me. I went to the local yarn store today, and found this for me. I love the warm colors, and i think the pattern will be fun to knit up. I always wanted an ear-flpa hat. Now I just have to squeeze it in with all the Christmas knitting I’m doing, as well as the UFO I promised myself I was gonna try and finish. We’ll see… this is fun, right? What I want to do, gets done, when I want it done.

Off to finish socks, maybe start hat, and watch Saturday TV…

holiday knitting pics

I finally have some pictures of things to post from my trip. It took a while to get up the energy to do this. Not much knitting going on either, as I’m still fighting with this cold. But it seems that I’m not the only one that got kick pretty hard with this thing. And I guess it is my turn. I haven’t been sick since the spring, where as when I worked for the school board, I was sick every 2 weeks. What I don’t’ understand is now that I work from home and have little or no contact with people, should I be getting sick at all? I’m convinced it is that Saskatchewan air! (j/k J!)

First is the new sock of the month kit from this month. I love the color of this opal, and it is an interesting pattern (or non-pattern) to watch develop. And easy instructions to follow. Funny, but it’s not as soft as I remember the other one being, but I could be confused. I don’t know if you can see, but it has a rib pattern with tiny holes (yo’s) in between. The only thing I’m not sure about is the fit when they are done, but I’m going on faith here. If it doesn’t work, I have a friend with bigger feet then me, and a mom with smaller, so someone will enjoy. *grin*

Then I managed to finished one of hubby’s wrist warmers. It is made of green anti tickle. (read down for info on anti tickle and pattern, I’m lazy) (sorry about blurry picture, dh was rushing me out the door for celebration supper for his new job) I have cast on and done about an inch of the second, but let me tell you, I am starting to get bored of wrist warmers…

Last is a fly-by-my-pants-lets-try-circular-needles-again, sock. I love the colors, they scream fall to me (although the yellow is a little brighter here). I’m using koigu kpppm for the first time, and am loving it! (Oh, let’s face it, I just love sock yarn, ask my DH who can no longer get into the spare room) :D I hope it wears nicely. I only wish I could remember where I got it. I really must start writing these things down.

I’m reading Anyone But Him by Sheila O'Flanagan. It’s a nice fat Irish sappy story…

Anyhow, these have been my knitting adventures, and hope that it snows soon (did I say that?) so I have more reason to stay in and knit…

great long weekend (for me anyway...)

I’m home. I had the wonderful opportunity to go to Regina for a couple of days, and so I took it. And much h*ll was raised, as much as you can in Regina with a pregnant lady who has to work half the time you are there. :-P Yet a wonderful time was had by all. We shopped, knitted, ate, and watched TV. The knitting store was great fun, and I even had to bring home an extra backpack to carry my extra clothes, yarn and souvenirs I bought.

Now I’m sick. Paying the price of too much fun maybe? I had a headache and slept all yesterday, and today have a wobbly tummy, and it feels like an elephant is sitting on my chest.

Knitting was indeed done on my mini-break, if not on the plane (to scared, to bumpy, and too public). But we did have some couch time where J and I chatted and knit. She started a beautiful scarf made out of twisted fun fur (sorry forget the brand name, but maybe she’ll send me a picture and I can post it) where half is a pink eyelash and the other has a suede feel to it. It will be lovely when done. I worked a sock out of koigu and am now in the home stretch (working my way form heel to toe). I also finished one wrist warmer from last minute gifts for hubby, except the bind off as I didn’t have the right size needle with me, and was afraid to make it too tight around the fingers. No pictures today though, as I have no energy to gather the projects together, find the camera, take photo’s, down load to computer, and up load to blog) maybe tomorrow.

Now I am taking my tea to bed for another snooze. As the kid on the Weekenders says (yes I saw that a couple times on my break), later days…

slippers, socks, book and movie

Felted slippers are done. It took them 4 days to dry, and then I still had to use a hair dryer to get the moisture out of the middle but they are finished! They are so warm, cozy and cuddly, fast to knit up, and fun, that I think nephew is defiantly getting a pair for Christmas. I’ll just have to remember to felt them at least a week early! The only negative, was I found them itchy at first, and was afraid of a wool allergy *gasp!*, but I think I got used to them, because they seem to be fine now…

I also have finished one of the parrot socks I was working on, and hope to be done the second in the next couple of days (which is good, because my next sock of the month packet is here) I did the second on circular needles to try it out, and see if I could see a difference, and I will say, that it is faster on 2 circs., but I’m not sure if it is as satisfying yet. I’ll post in a couple days, to see if there is a visible difference.

*edited to add* finished the socks last night, and here they are, pre-blocking. I can't see any differnce, do you see a difference?

Right now I am reading Shopaholic & Sister by Sophie Kinsella. I enjoyed the other ones in the series, but this one seems sillier then the others I have read, and almost a waste of precious knitting time. But I’m stubborn, and am ¾ of the way through it, so I’m gonna finish it. Maybe it redeems it self, but I’m not holing my breath.

DH and I decided that we wanted to see a movie this weekend. I wanted to see Must Love Dogs, (it would have been to hard to talk DH into, even if it is a gushy chick flick, it has Diane Lane in it,) but it was only on at 10:00, and we wanted to see a matinee, so we watched Fantastic Four. I don’t mind super hero movies. And I have even come to expect them, as I know that I married a comic book freak. This was not a bad movie. It had good special effects. They had powers that were different, it appeared to be well thought out, and not repetitive. (Unless you count Incredibles, but FF was clearly made first). But they spent the entire movie beating each other up, (even the good guys) and not doing anything for good, or the general population. If you are gonna have powers, I think you need to better the world, ya know? Or you’re not really a hero, just a selfish guy with powers. But worth seeing. In the cheap theaters.

Lucky Schmuck!

I feel very spoiled this morning! I went to get the mail, and there was an uber-happy package there for me! It was full of wonderful treats from my totally rocking needle exchange partner! The person who had my name was Christine and she did a wonderful job!

She sent 2 skeins of knitpicks shimmer lace weight in morning mist. It is made of baby alpaca and silk. (I think I’ll just carry it around on my shoulder and fondle it all day…), the tiniest most delicate dpns I have ever seen, and two size five (ideal) Lantern Moon straight needles. I have only seen these on line, and they are so much more beautiful in person. I think they are going to be so warm and soft to use this winter.

I am so tickled pink, I sat on the couch for a while and just held it, and whenever I walk by the table I have to reach out and touch it and it makes me smile…

Christine, I appreciate the care you took in you package to me, and you kind word on your blog. Your package made my day way better…

Off to play with new treats…

I am thankful…

I am most thankful for my husband. He is my rock in times of stress. He let me quit my job, so I could start a home business. He spoils me rotten. He lets me buy all the wool and pattern books I like (and only occasionally shakes his head). He is great at taxes.

I am thankful that I have enough food, a roof over my head and clothes to wear. And a vehicle to get around in. Even for TV, internet, and cell phones (mega luxuries).

I am thankful, that although we have lost 3 family members this year, we are still able to go to a big family dinner with parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and 2 grandparents.

I am thankful for my 3 animals, and the comfort they give me.

I hope you have many blessing, and I hope our Thanksgiving is as full of love and thanks as mine.

Busy but sad couple of days.

DH’s grandpa died yesterday morning. This has not been a good year, first his grandma in the spring an then my grandpa and his in the past month. Not a good experience once, but to have to do it 3 times in 6 months has been horrible. It really makes you appreciate what you do have, and reflect a little on the good and bad…

On the bright side DH has been home with me, watching movies and being sad, and eating, and basically sitting on the couch for 2 days, so a lot has been done on the knitting front. I finished another little bear, for a little friend of mine that I see once a week (are you sick of these yet?) I made his body a lot shorter; as I was afraid I would run out of yarn, but now he looks a little like a star fish. I still like him, and my friend will love him.

I finished my pair of felted clogs from this weekend’s class, and am felting them as I type. I’m so excited, that I’m not sure that I can wait until they dry! I have also changed my mind. I had started a pair of thrum slipper for my nephew for Christmas, but had to put them on hold until I had his exact foot measurement. Now I think I like these better, they were way more quick and fun, so this is what he will get I think. Well see how easy they are to felt first though. And then that raises another question, do I felt them first and guess his foot size, or do I give them to him unfelted, and we do it together? This might take more thought…

I have also finished my first Babe! Her name is Ginger. Now, out of respect for her privacy, I have only taken a picture of her top half, as I’m sure you will understand. She still needs clothes. But we have a long weekend coming up, and I don’t see being in the mood to go out and do anything (other then the obligatory dinner at parents) but staying home watching TV and being creative sounds just about right…

If I don’t talk to ya happy Canadian Thanksgiving, and safe travels to any one on the roads…

and she'll have fun, fun, fun...

Today was totally fun. I spent the day at my LYS taking a class. I was on making felted clogs. I have felted before, but this was fun as all I have done is purses, that really don’t need to fit. Else was a wonderful teacher, who taught us many things, and many ways of doing things we already knew. And I really appreciated her teaching style. It was very much, “ok start, and let me know when and if you run into to a problem…” I have taken classes where something is demonstrated, and then you have the opportunity to try, but that way, everyone needs to knit at the same speed. Although it defiantly has it place if you are learning some thing tricky like sock making, “show then do” reinforces what you are learning, and caters to many learning styles, so I do see it’s benefit. Any how, I choose pink (because I’m all about the pink this year, and this is actually for me…) Here is a picture of my first clog, just missing the bottom sole (there is supposed to be two…(soles I mean, not clogs))

I also finished another bear. Little and quick…

I knit the front half of a Babe last night while watching a movie, but it’s curly and not very exciting, so you will have to wait until there is more done for a photo…
