Vampire Academy

Title: Vampire Academy

Author: Richelle Mead

Date Finished: April 8, 2009

Personal Book Count: 28 out of 100

Rating: 3 out of 5

Genre/ Subject: Young Adult

First Line: I felt her fear before I heard her screams.

Summery: Lissa Drogomir is a Moroi (Vampire) Princess. Her best friend Rose Hathaway is half vampire and half human, and her protector. They are brought back to the Vampire Academy after living outside it for 2 years.

Why did I pick this book? : Because I share a name with one of the main characters it intrigued me.

Review: I think I sabotaged this book before I read it. Sometimes timing is everything, and unfortunately, I found this one shortly after reading eclipse. Not to say that I didn’t enjoy it, it was just hard not to compare, and so didn’t measure up. I did like both Lissa’s and Rose’s character. They were well fleshed out, and more or less believable. I wish I could say the same for a few others, but as this is a series, that may start to come later. I did find the interactions between each other and the other students very realistic and teen-like. And it was a new (to me) and different twist on vampires which I had not read before (but I admit I haven’t read a whole lot of vampire fiction). I enjoyed it well enough, but I think one was enough, and I don’t seem myself reading more of the series. But I am glad I picked this one up.

Agree? Disagree? Recommendations? Any insights, suggestions, or comments on the book or format, or blog at all are most welcome. If you have read this and/ or review it yourself, please let me know. Can you think of any books like this? Give me a recommendation! =D

That's interesting; lack of caring about Rose and Lissa was one of my main problems with this book. Interesting how different readers get different things from a book.

hey im fifteen and i thought vampire academy was exceptionally good and i read it after reading the twilight saga. I just finished the third book in mead's series and honestly it got better in book two and book three was amazing i cant wait for the fourth in august. I think you should continue to read this serie i promise its totally worth it the second book is called frostbite and the third is shadow-kiss and the fourth one is going to be called Blood Promise. I hope you take my advice its totally worth it well thanks for reading this sorry its so long lol <3Sami

I agree with sami that these books get better as the series progress.

I'm an avid reader and over the past couple of years I've been reading more teen books (despite not being in the target demographic for nearly 20 years) and more vampire/fantasy books of late.

I, of course, also made my way through the twilight series and the house of night series. I found book 1 of this series reasonable (enough at least to continue the series), but I found the second and third to be the "can't put down finish in 5 hours wrecking my sleep".

Ok, you guys talked me into it. This sounds like it is one that definitely deserves a second try. I will be keeping my eyes open for the next one. =D

The second and third books are definitely so much better. I found myself enjoying vampire academy series more than twilight because it wasnt very fluffed up. Twilight just never really devastated me, but with this series I felt more connected to the characters and their experiences and it was done without as many words.

either way it definitely gets better so check it out!

It gets better by the 2nd and 3rd books. In my opinion the third was the best.
I read these after reading the twilight saga(which in my opinion were the worst books i've read in a long time) and these were almost a breathe of fresh air.
Vampire books that didnt suck and included a teeny bit of romance.
They're great.
